The striking purple leaves stand out amongst green indoor plants and it’s also photophilic, which mean that the leaves open and close in response to light. At night the leaves fold down and during the day they will open up. This is a great plant if you want to make some time lapse videos!

Oxalis is often referred to as a purple shamrock or false shamrock. It’s history can be traced back to St Patrick in Ireland, even though the plant originated in Brazil.

Light // Can handle bright indirect light, but not full shade. Can live outside in the growing season. A happy medium of some sunshine will do the trick. When it goes dark, the butterfly shapes close up.

Water // Water well within the growing season with tepid water

Humidity // LOVES humidity. A perfect bathroom plant that would also look great in any partially shaded room as long as the humidity is kept high

Feed // Feed biweekly during the growing season with a liquid fertiliser

The Oxalis triangularis will go dormant in the winter months. Don't worry you have not killed it…just wait for the growing season to start and she/he will re-sprout.
